Here are some HAIR TIPS from Viki who showed just how amazingly 40s we can look if we pull off these steps! Get practising and help our photo shoots in term 3 look vintage glam!

Tools for Victory Rolls
* Styling lotion
* Tail comb
* Bobby pins, long and short
* Lacquer
* Hot rollers or curling iron
* Brush
* Rat (hair padding) optional

Setting Hair Using Hot Rollers
* Shampoo the hair
* Apply a styling lotion, something that is not too greasy or heavy
* Dry the hair completely (Hair that is too oily will not curl effectively/ Hair that is not bone dry will not effectively set either)
* If you are setting hair that is already dry – spray throughout with hairspray as it will act as a styling agent and give better curl
* Take sections of hair that are approximately the same size as the roller you are about to put in
* Wrap the hair from the ends, until you have about one and a half wraps around the roller
* Use a tail comb and turn under the ends of the hair, this is important so as to not get fish hook ends (which results in a frizzy finish)
* Continue to roll hair to the roots, and secure with pin or clamp.
* Spray hair with hair lacquer
* Allow the hair to set for 10 to 20 minutes
* If you remove the curlers while the hair is warm, the curl will drop, so secure each curl with a clip or bobby pin until they are all removed and cool. The cooling of the hair is important for correct curl formation
* Gently remove rollers starting at the ape and working up to the top
* Either brush or finger style depending on the result you require

School Term 1 was spent learning felting skills and making felt squares and flowers for a textile quilt.

Term 2 2011 will involve quilting and Term 3 is Crotchet/Knitting.

The finished work will be donated for display at Lyons Early Childhood Centre.

Thanks to everyone who came last week for session 1 of creative writing, it was wonderful to see so many people attending and heaps of new faces among them.  I hope the exercise we did was beneficial for you and got the juices flowing a bit.

I will be posting links on this site to some of the material we cover in class so don’t worry if you miss a session, you’ll be able to access it all online at your own convenience.

This week we will be looking at editing and doing a short exercise practising editing some small sample pieces of work.  After that we will have time for working on our own writing projects.

Singing teacher Cecilia led us through a few breathing and relaxation exercises first, some of which were very funny – blowing raspberries in a room full of other adults is more entertaining than you might think!

After that we sang some nursery rhymes, an indigenous ballad, spiritual songs and Carole King’s “You’ve Got a Friend” (you probably know the version recorded by James Taylor). A very enjoyable way to spend the morning.
